Meet Vicki

Vicki Veenker

I care deeply about our community. My husband, our two daughters, and I have been lucky to call Palo Alto home for the last 30 years. Our creative, talented, and diverse neighbors make Palo Alto both unique and world-class.

Despite our many assets, Palo Alto is falling short of its potential with slow progress toward our climate goals, unmet housing needs, and reduced library hours. I’m running for Palo Alto City Council because, like many of my neighbors, I know that we can do better. Together we can revitalize our city, lead on issues like climate, and be a welcoming community for the marvelously diverse residents who enrich Palo Alto.

I’m an innovator and a consensus-builder.

I have a track record of building consensus on tough issues. As a Director at Convergence Center for Policy Resolution, I convened Sacramento leaders to create a plan to rein in healthcare costs that became law this year. For over a decade, I’ve served as a mediator for the federal courts and the US International Trade Commission.

My track record of innovation includes working with top inventors for more than 30 years as a patent attorney and launching new entities including Women’s Professional Soccer and Sibling Cities USA which aims to knit our country back together, two cities at a time.

My experience as a community leader makes me optimistic about moving our city forward.

  • I served as President and almost 20 years on the Board of the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, which provides access to justice for underserved communities, including successful advocacy for the residents of the Buena Vista mobile home park in Palo Alto.
  • I saw the intellectual curiosity and caring of Palo Altans when I served as director of Palo Alto’s Great Decisions public discussion series, the local affiliate of the Foreign Policy Association’s annual program.
  • I worked with fellow Palo Altans to care for those in need when I served on the Outreach and other committees of my church which provided food, clothing and shelter for the unhoused.
  • I’ve advocated for those struggling with health issues when I served on the Fund Development and Advocacy committees of the Northern California and Northern Nevada chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
  • I served on the Board of Directors of WIREforWomen and the Advisory Board of FundHer to support women running for public office.

Palo Alto is primed for a better future. I’m prepared to help us get there.
